The original ring was cut into several parts and flattened. The single parts were soldered to form the new ring. 

In the general view it is really a liberal structure which is constructed from single layers. It is still possible to see the pattern of the flating at the edges of the layers. The ring rail is soldered together with the other parts of the ring. The strong shape of the rail gives a high contrast to the irregular shape of the layers.
